A beautiful flat with incredible views over the Firth of Forth
An exceptional upper flat, 22/9 Bridge House boasts bright and spacious interiors, an interesting history and stunning views over the Firth of Forth and its iconic bridges. It is situated in the lovely town of South Queensferry located to the north-west of Edinburgh city centre, which offers easy access to the capital via road and rail links.
Lisa Dransfield, the current owner of the property, said it was the “views and space” that initially drew her to the property, adding that it’s “very flexible, which is great for a growing family.”
History
When Lisa and her husband purchased the property 13 years ago, they had moved to Edinburgh from England and weren’t aware of Bridge House’s interesting and colourful history. As Lisa understands it, the Victorian Mansion House was originally built for the engineers of the Forth Rail Bridge, during construction of the bridge. After that, Lisa believes it became a royal naval home for sailors, before falling into disrepair for several years. Her neighbours, who still live there, then bought it and renovated it into ten flats.
However, it didn’t remain as ten flats for long. 22/9 Bridge House was originally two separate flats but when rockstars Jim Kerr and Chrissie Hynde, from Simple Minds and The Pretenders, came to view the flat, they purchased two and converted them into one larger apartment. The flat still retains features installed by the famous pair, including the Junckers Maple timber flooring and one of the bathrooms. Bridge House was also home to Stephen Hendry at one stage – the famous snooker player lived in the flat downstairs.
It’s not hard to see why Bridge House attracted celebrity owners, with the superb outlook over the Forth to Fife and prime location near the centre of South Queensferry.
Interior
22/9 Bridge House benefits from stylish and spacious interiors, with the drawing room being a particular highlight. It offers a feature corner bay window which offers stunning views of the Forth Bridges. There is another lounge/dining room located to the rear of the property which also features a bay window. The flat also features a bespoke Smallbone of Devizes kitchen with a range of base and wall mounted units with co-ordinating work surfaces and splashbacks.
There are five bright and spacious bedrooms in the property. The master bedroom is located on the lower level and features an en suite shower room and dressing room. There is one other bedroom located on the lower level and the remaining three are on the upper level, which is accessed via a beautiful spiral staircase. The property also features a study and a newly fitted bathroom on the upper level, and there is a bespoke oak panelled bathroom on the lower level.
22/9 Bridge House further benefits from excellent built-in storage, shared leafy gardens and two allocated parking spaces.
About the area
South Queensferry is a lovely town located to the north-west of Edinburgh. Despite not knowing the area before moving there 13 years ago, Lisa said it’s been perfect for her and her family, commenting that it’s got “a real sense of community”. The Dalmeny Estate offers an excellent array of walking routes for those who like the outdoors. There are also lots of lovely local eateries, including the newly opened Scotts and well-established places such as The Boathouse and Orocco Pier. Plus, for families, there are three local primary schools and a high school, which is currently getting a new state-of-the-art building – construction is due to finish next year. The amenities of Edinburgh city centre are also easily accessible, and the airport is also just a 15 minute drive away, making it an ideal location for those who work in the city centre or have to travel for work, but wish to live in a peaceful and picturesque town on the banks of the Firth of Forth.
